Copyright, Licensing & Permissions

Authors retain their rights unless a separate agreement says otherwise and must clear material they do not own.

Policies Copyright, Licensing & Permissions

Authors retain copyright in their working papers unless they have transferred copyright through a separate written agreement. The copyright holder and license may differ by paper, so the rights statement on the paper page and OAsis item record controls for that record.

The Series does not apply a blanket Creative Commons license to every paper and does not imply that free access permits unrestricted reuse.

Permission to publish and preserve

Before publication, every author must approve the final manuscript and grant the non-exclusive permissions stated in the executed Author Posting Agreement. Those permissions must be sufficient for the Series and approved repository services to reproduce, display, distribute, preserve, and describe the paper and its public metadata.

Non-exclusive permission allows an author to retain copyright and pursue other lawful publication, subject to the policies of any later venue. The agreement does not by itself identify UNLV, OAsis, or the Series as a legal publisher. No Series publisher value is asserted unless it is formally decided and documented.

See the plain-language Author Posting Agreement summary. The signed agreement—not the summary page—controls the permission granted for a paper.

Third-party material

Authors must identify material they do not own, including figures, photographs, maps, tables, survey instruments, datasets, software, substantial excerpts, and adapted material. Before submission, they must either:

  • obtain written permission that covers the intended public and repository use;
  • document a license or other legal basis that permits that use; or
  • remove or replace the material.

A citation alone is not a substitute for permission when permission is required. The Series may request documentation and may defer publication, restrict access, or require revision when rights are unclear. Editorial screening is not legal advice or a guarantee that a use is lawful.

Reusing Series content

Readers may link to paper pages and quote within the limits of applicable law with appropriate attribution. Reproducing a figure, table, substantial excerpt, or full paper may require permission from the copyright holder. Consult the record-specific rights statement and contact the author or identified rights holder when permission is required.

UNLV names and marks remain subject to applicable university trademark and brand requirements. Publication of a paper does not authorize use of a UNLV mark to imply endorsement.

Author profiles and personal information

Permission to publish a manuscript does not include permission to publish an optional biography, photograph, personal profile link, or personal contact information. Those elements require separate consent, and declining them does not affect manuscript eligibility.

Rights concerns

Report a specific rights issue through the Contact page and identify the paper, URL, material, basis of the claim, and requested remedy. Do not send unnecessary identity documents or confidential evidence by ordinary email. Requests are handled under Expressions of Concern, Withdrawal & Takedown.

The views expressed in a paper are those of its authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of UNLV, Lee Business School, the department, the Editorial Board, a faculty sponsor, or OAsis.
