About the Series

Undergraduate economics research, organized for discovery and preserved through UNLV's institutional repository

Working papers are preliminary research outputs. They are editorially screened, are not peer reviewed, and may be revised.

Purpose and institutional home

An undergraduate research publication operated by its Editorial Board within the Molasky Family Department of Economics and Real Estate, Lee Business School, University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The Series gives readers a stable way to discover undergraduate economics research and gives qualifying student authors a structured publication process with faculty sponsorship, editorial screening, accessible document preparation, and durable repository records.

Scope and eligibility

The Series considers original economics and economics-related research authored primarily by current UNLV undergraduate students or completed while the author was enrolled as a UNLV undergraduate.

Papers developed in ECON 495 receive priority because ECON 495 is the department's undergraduate capstone research course. Publication is not limited to ECON 495, economics majors, or a single course.

UNLV undergraduate students from any major may be considered when their work makes a substantive economics-related contribution and has a faculty sponsor.

  • The work must make a substantive economics-related contribution.
  • A UNLV faculty sponsor is required before the Series begins intake.
  • The Series does not currently accept unsupported direct submissions from students.

Working-paper status and semester issues

The Series publishes original economics-related working papers by UNLV undergraduates. Papers are editorially screened but are not peer reviewed and may be revised.

Accepted papers are organized into semester issues. An issue is an editorial and discovery grouping for papers released together; it does not convert a working paper into a peer-reviewed journal article.

A five-stage publication process

The Editorial Board applies one documented process to each proposed paper. Detailed requirements and decision authority are set out in the public policies.

  1. Intake and eligibility

Confirm undergraduate eligibility, faculty sponsorship, scope, authorship, required materials, rights, and consent records.

  2. Editorial screening

Review the research question, contribution, evidence, methods, conclusions, citations, writing, and research readiness.

  3. Compliance screening

Review authorship, permissions, disclosures, research ethics, restricted data, accessibility, and data and code statements.

  4. Editorial decision

Issue a documented outcome under the voting, conflict-of-interest, and recusal rules.

  5. Production

Verify metadata and document accessibility, prepare citations, coordinate the OAsis record, release the issue, and check public links.

The OAsis repository record

The Series designates the OAsis item record and deposited full text as the permanent repository record for each paper.

OAsis is UNLV's institutional repository and a service of UNLV University Libraries. It hosts deposited item records and full-text files, supports preservation through persistent URLs, and provides readership and download information. The Editorial Board, not OAsis, makes the Series' editorial decisions.
